American Red Cross
designates the
South Central Connecticut
Chapter
as one of the
Top Performing in Nation

NEW HAVEN, CT (MAY 8, 2007) – The South Central Connecticut Chapter of the American Red Cross has been named one of 80 best-performing chapters in the United States by the national American Red Cross, headquartered in Washington, D.C. A total of 805 chapters were evaluated in fiscal year 2006.  To achieve this outstanding designation, the chapter was scored on a comprehensive set of performance criteria through its Chapter Performance Standards system.

The South Central Connecticut Chapter, which is made up of thirteen employees and 1,100 of volunteers, supports the Greater New Haven community by providing lifesaving health and safety training, responding to disaster incidents, assisting members of the military and their families, hosting lifesaving blood drives, and international and youth community services.

“This is an outstanding achievement for our chapter,” said Jane Wasyliw, then Executive Director.  “This award is the direct result of the hard work of our employees and volunteers including the members or our local board, and would not have been possible without the support of the members of the Greater New Haven community.”

Last year alone, the residents of New Haven County participated in 11,000 CPR and other training courses, and responded to 84 disasters including an apartment complex fire in West Haven affecting 34 families. The South Central Connecticut Chapter also reached out to 75 military families in need and assisted hundreds through community services including a food bank and a transportation program at their Wallingford branch. All of this is possible thanks to the generous gift of time, blood and money provided by the residents of Greater New Haven.
