National Volunteer Week

Honoring our volunteers
National Volunteer Week (April 27-May 3) is a week designated to recognize the hardworking volunteers across the country that do good work for many organizations. National Volunteer Week was created in 1974 when President Richard Nixon signed an executive order to establish the week as an annual celebration of volunteering. And every year since that time, each U.S. President, along with many governors, mayors and other elected officials, has signed a proclamation promoting National Volunteer Week.  This year’s theme is “Volunteer to Change the World.”

Did you know?
Over 1.2 million people volunteer for the American Red Cross nationally. Ninety-seven percent of American Red Cross staff are volunteers. Adults over 25 comprise about 66% of Red Cross volunteers, while youth and young adults make up about 34%.

Thank you for being a part of this figure and giving back to the communities we serve!
