National Volunteer Week |
|
Honoring
our volunteers
National
Volunteer Week
(April 27-May 3) is a week
designated to recognize the hardworking
volunteers across the country that do good
work for many organizations. National
Volunteer Week was created in 1974 when
President Richard Nixon signed an executive
order to establish the week as an annual
celebration of volunteering. And every year
since that time, each U.S. President, along
with many governors, mayors and other
elected officials, has signed a proclamation
promoting National Volunteer Week. This
year’s theme is “Volunteer to Change the
World.” |

World Red Cross & Red
Crescent Day is May 8th
Each year on May 8, the 181 national Red
Cross and Red Crescent Societies around the
world commemorate World Red Cross and Red
Crescent Day. Celebrated each year since
1948, World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day
falls on the birthday of Henry Dunant of
Switzerland, the founder of the Red Cross.
Each year World Red Cross and Red Crescent
Day is used to recognize the services that
Red Cross and Red Crescent national
societies perform. This year's World Red
Cross and Red Crescent Day will highlight
the work of tens of millions of Red Cross
Red Crescent volunteers who respond to human
suffering in their communities all over the
world. To learn more about World Red
Cross Day and our international initiatives,
